Systems approach

We know that training alone does not meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The legislation states that staff must recieve training, instruction, support and supervision. 

We also know from our experience that safer handling and effective risk management can be achieved by implementing a systems approach.

 This involves :

• Bespoke Training
• Workplace audits
• Risk Assessments
• Staff Competency Assessment 

The Health and Safety Executive have two research documents to support this approach to effective risk management.

This research supports the need for workplace observations, risk assessment and bespoke training packages to reflect the unique needs of the organisation.

This research demonstrates the need for support and supervision in the workplace to effectively change moving and handling practice and to ensure handlers have the ability to problem solve and are competent in their practice.
